Gear review

I have been subscribed to do some backpack gear testing for http://www.backpackgeartest.org/ for sometime now and finally have completed the first draft of my owner review of the SteriPen adventurer. I will include a link to the review on here once I have had the chance to edit it with the help of my mentor Andre.

If you are looking for a gear review I suggest that you checkout this site to get some opinions. I am hoping that Missie and I will be able to be frequently doing gear reviews and posting on here as a way to keep us active in backpacking between our big hikes.

Refocus

We have decided to refocus the blog to our outdoor adventures. These adventures will include mostly backpacking, but also biking, geocaching, hiking, and some other travel adventures that may occur. We will be talking about hikes we are planning as well as some other things.

Gear reviews will also be included here, but more about that later.

Violet’s new pack

Solar promised a picture of Vi a.k.a. Eclipse (thanks Julie and Ms. Lamarr’s 3rd grade class) with her new pack on. She seems to be liking it good enough, it does have the main advantage over the other in that it disburses the weight more evenly over the length of the pack and doesn’t concentrate the weight on her sore spot. Vi doesn’t like to put this one on as much however, because the whole pack has to slide over her head whereas only the harness did this in the RuffWear design. The new Granite Gear pack also holds the saddles more in place and has more padding which I think she enjoys. Peace, Lunar

Water storage

I said I was going to start giving some gear reviews and this one is at the top of the list right now. We each carry a nalgene water bottle and a bladder to carry our water in. This is usually sufficient, but right now we are in an area deficient on water, so it has been more difficult to resupply on water and we are having to carry more. We have also found numerous other uses for the nalgenes including a place to treat our water with the Steripen (more on that at another time), as a thermos for our coffee in the morning brecause it holds heat in well, also as a bed warmer on cold nights for the same reason (put a sock over it to not get burned and make the heat last longer). The bladders are really nice because we don’t have to stop walking to take a drink. Violet has even figured out that when there are not stream It is actually raining right now which is a huge blessing because perhaps it will make water more abundant, we have heard that the section we hsve coming up is very dry.
