This is a view of the Nanthala Gorge in NC. We are finished with Tennessee now which means we have 12 states down and two to go. Everything is starting to feel very familiar now. I have been in this area many times and even hiked the section we start with tomorrow a couple years ago with Marshall. I have rafted the Nantahala numerous times and enjoy this area alot.

We are at the Mountain Harbour B and B with Highlife the drunk…oh yes she did…
I amd very happy to be inside on this rainy day and looking forward to our beautiful and cheap king size bd tonight. this is the best hostel on the trail….i have to say!

Abby’s Place

We spent the evening last night here at Abby’s Place. Abby was a Doberman Pinscer that did a lot of long distance hiking with our hosts Scott and Ron. Ron slack packed Scott along many of the long distance trails in the US including the PCT, CDT, AT, IAT, Florida Scenic Trail and the long trail.
We will be in Erwin, TN in two and a half days, which is where we will be stopping to ressupply and stay at another hostel. It is possible through this section of TN to hostel hop if you wanted to.
Right now we are recieving some much needed rain, but it is making it very difficult to get up the gumption to go outside and hike. We were supposed to be ascending Hump Mtn today, but we’ve decided to cut our day short at 12 miles to allow us to go over this bald mountain in nice weather tomorrow.

Bland

We have spent a couple days here in Bland, VA at the Big Walker Motel. We weren’t planning on being in Bland for two days, but it turns out that Monday was Columbus day and the post office was closed. We were fortunate enough to find a gentleman named Ken who gave us a shuttle each day to the same spot and we slacked 16 on Monday back to the hotel. Ken also has a bed and breakfast called Valley View Retreat if you are ever in Bland annd need a nice host check out his site at www.valleyviewretreat.com. We caught up with some more SOBO’s who we are sharing a shelter with this evening; Yellowbird, Caveman, Salty Dog, Dutch, and Juice. We are pretty excited that Marshall is going to be meeting up with us on Friday and is bringing a “guest” to be hiking into Damascus with us. Peace, Lunar

So…we are in town and having the best party ever! Trip ‘n Daisy and Ranger have joined in a family celebration of lunar and my birthdays and our halfway hiking point! We have hiked over 1000 miles now and feel great and excited to be nearing the end of our journey…though sad too.

Updates: both our of dads came out to join us as well as Aunt Patti and my brother Greg on a 18.1 mile hike over 2 days. Everyone had a great time and when we got to town yesterday afternoon…we commenced the eating! And…we’re still eating! What a great time. Pictures will follow. (Lunar is about to come and put our latest photos on the computer as well….so check those out…you can also see the pics of the tents and food we’ve been eating!)

Lunar has a boil on his leg…yuck…which is an experience…but his exzema has improved with cooler weather and not walking. Solar, me, is fine and healthy again. I also have new shoes…which is also good….and a black silk cocktail dress…long story…lol.

Much to say…but little time…wish y’all were here…it’s so much fun!
