Resolution Run 2009

Well, it has taken me a while to write but we’ve been busy getting back to work and working on renovations in the house.

We ran the Resolution Run 5K on New Year’s Day in downtown Nashville this year. It was very fun and we did well, especially Reuben, considering it was his first race. He came in 22nd for his age bracket (30-34 year old males).

We ran with Marjorie, a woman I play tennis week a couple of times a week, and one of my mother’s friends. We had a great time but were sad to leave Violet at home, especially when we figured out that she was allowed to be at the race. It was an “anything goes” kind of race….so people had their dogs, baby joggers, mp3 players, etc. We’ll know better next year! (sorry Violet…).

We’re still getting ready for our big run in April and getting faster and in better shape with every run.

Resolution Run

Today Missie and I continued our training for the half marathon by running slightly over two miles. We usually track our distance with our GPS, but we have run low on batteries so had to go by time today. Anyway, we also decided to register for a New Years Day 5K called the Resolution Run in Nashville.

Country Music Half Marathon

So we decided to run the Country Music Half Marathon. We will begin our training next week and the race will be in March. Missie has run long distances before, but this will be a new challenge for Reuben.

Missie is a Triathlete

Hey guys….I know that I ran this triathlon last Sunday but haven’t posted yet because I only just now got the picture I wanted to post for the event.

It was a sprint distance triathlon, so it was good for my first one. I did really well…better than I expected. I would have done even better if I had practiced my transitions better! Well…maybe next time.

My friend, Robin, also did very well. We were so excited and thrilled to have had the experience. I am definitely hooked and am looking forward to moving to Nashville, where it seems there are all sorts of races every weekend!

Below is the picture of my crossing the finish line. I am a little embarrassed of it as my mouth is wide open….but I was hoofing it across that finish line. I almost threw up when I got done because I underestimated my final sprint distance and pushed too hard too soon….so by the time I got the finish line I was more than spent!

Callaway Gardens

So, I have a Triathlon coming up at Callaway Gardens this coming Sunday morning and am very excited and nervous! I have been trying to practice as much as possible. It starts with a swim, then we bike, and then we run. I am totally fine with biking and running but anyone who knows me knows that I DON’T DO FISHY THINGS. I am so totally scared of water with living creatures I should be in therapy.

Which….is why I went to Callaway this past weekend with my training buddy, Robin, and did a practice swim at Iceberg Island. The lake out there has a fun area with all these big inflated toys like rock climbing walls and trampolines. It got pretty deep and scary but I did it. I even climbed the top of the tallest wall….(and was practically forced to get down because I was too scared to jump off into the water!) I just jumped and swam like hell for shore.
